Project SOCIETAS Case Study

Requirement

Project SOCIETAS is a transformation project initiated by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to secure and enhance long-term access to specialist electronic warfare (EW) suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) for the Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Centre (JEWOSC).

The project was established to address growing concerns over the availability of skilled personnel needed to sustain the delivery of EW mission data and related intelligence outputs to the UK joint force.

It aims to build and maintain a sovereign UK mission data capability, support increased UK contributions to Five Eyes electromagnetic warfare collaboration and enhance the UK's defence exports.

Approach

Mercury EW Ltd is a part of Team Pegasus, a collaboration led by QinetiQ and local industry and academic partners to deliver mission data services and expertise under Project SOCIETAS for up to 10 years. The partnership is designed to create at least 70 highly skilled data science and computing jobs in the Lincolnshire area, upskill over 200 MoD personnel in data analysis and technology, and support the creation of further jobs through contracts with small and medium enterprises.

Outcome

The project has accelerated the production of mission data, enhancing the protection of UK military platforms and personnel in a rapidly evolving threat landscape and supporting the UK's export agenda by providing allies with access to world-class mission data.
